Equity and Anti-Oppression
Accessibility
- All speqtrum activities will be held in wheelchair-accessible
locations.
- All activity locations will have a designated
“chill space” for those needing a break from programming.
- For programming that involves sports/physical
activity, these will be made as accessible as possible and open to all skill
levels.
- All speqtrum activities will be free of
charge, with equipment and materials provided.
- For activities taking place off-site from a
YWCA Hamilton location, bus tickets will be available to participants.
Equity and Anti-Oppression
- We will foster community-specific programming
for historically underserved queer people, including Black, Indigenous and
racialized folks, two-spirit folks, newcomers, trans folks, disabled folks, and others.
- All speqtrum facilitators will undergo
anti-oppression training.
- Facilitators will make clear that racism,
sexism, transphobia, biphobia, ableism, classism, and bullying are not welcome
at speqtrum events. Facilitators will acknowledge and address harms in
constructive and kind ways.
- We recognize that we all come from different
places of knowledge and access to knowledge about oppression and educational
materials and support are available from speqtrum staff at all events.
Accountability
- We will be
accountable for creating spaces that are safe, inclusive, inviting, and
supportive for all participants.
- We will be
accountable for making sure speqtrum belongs to all of us. Whether it is your
first time participating or your tenth – the programming, resources, and spaces
made available through speqtrum are shared equally and transparently.
- We will be
accountable to one another and commit to supporting participation in ways that
feel good and safe for everyone.
